Politico: new package of EU sanctions may include a ban on the import of polished diamonds from Russia
In a new package of anti-Russian sanctions European Union (EU) may include a ban on the import of diamonds from Russia. The newspaper reports Politico with reference to European diplomats.
As it became known to the publication, European Commission plans to discuss a new package of restrictive measures against Russia with EU ambassadors on Friday, September 23. The proposed measures are expected to include capping the price of Russian oil, expanding the list of sanctions against Russian individuals, and a ban on the import of Russian diamonds and other luxury items.
Former head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell declaredthat in the event of a referendum on the accession of Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia in relation to Moscow new sanctions will be introduced.
Before became knownthat the countries of the European Union, USA, Canada and Ukraine called for assigning the status of “bloody” diamonds from Russia because of the situation in Ukraine.

After that, many Western countries reacted to this with harsh sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities. In addition, several dozen Western companies have left the Russian market.
