The Toyota Motor company, which is the official representative of Toyota in the Russian market, is closing the assembly site in St. Petersburg. This was announced on Friday, September 23, in the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Now the department, together with the city authorities, is working on possible scenarios for the development of this site, writes RIA News. It is noted that the company will ensure the fulfillment of all social obligations to employees, as well as additional compensation payments. “In addition, the company will retain after-sales service for Toyota and Lexus vehicles and support for the dealer network,” the ministry added.
The Toyota Motor plant in St. Petersburg opened in 2007. They produce the Toyota RAV4 crossover and the Toyota Camry sedan. The plant’s production capacity is 100,000 vehicles per year.
In March, it was reported that Toyota has no plans to leave from the Russian market. Production in St. Petersburg was suspended, but at that time there were no plans to close the plant.
