The United States does not seek conflict with Russia and is trying to prevent further escalation of tensions over the situation in Ukraine. Such a statement on Friday, September 23, was made by the official representative of the American White House, Karine Jean-Pierre.

The official commented on the likelihood of an escalation in Russian-American relations after the referendums in the Luhansk and Donetsk people’s republics, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on the issue of joining the Russian Federation, informs TASS.

According to Jean-Pierre, Washington has repeatedly repeated that it does not seek conflict with Moscow and is attentive to containing escalation.

At the same time, the White House stressed that they are extremely attentive to the statements of the Russian side on nuclear weapons, but so far they see no reason to change the level of readiness of US nuclear forces.

Western media have previously presented a number of scenarios hypothetical clash between the US and Russiaincluding the use of nuclear weapons. Newsweek wrote that more than 90 million people would die or be injured during the first few hours of a possible conflict, and that thereafter the number of deaths would only increase due to nuclear fallout and other long-term consequences.
