Due to the announcement of partial mobilization and plans to hold referendums in the Donbass, new anti-Russian sanctions should be introduced, and the restrictive measures already introduced against the Russian Federation turned out to be effective. This opinion was expressed by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“Sanctions are very effective. If you look at the Russian economy, the industry has collapsed,” said official in an interview with CNN.

In her opinion, the Russian military-industrial complex is facing “great difficulties” because of the ban on the supply of semiconductors from the EU. It was introduced as part of one of the packages of anti-Russian sanctions. “All these signs suggest that the sanctions are really biting,” said von der Leyen.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy said that the EU countries introduce a series of new sanctions against Russia as soon as possible because of the planned referendums in the Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. According to him, the restrictions will be both individual and affecting entire sectors of the Russian economy.
