After several years of discussions, the Ministry of Finance included in the budget revenues for the next three years the proceeds from the excise tax on sugary drinks. As follows from the draft “Guidelines for the budget, tax and customs tariff policy for 2023 and for the planning period of 2024 and 2025”, these funds will be used to combat diabetes.
“In 2023-2025, additional federal budget revenues are expected, including due to the introduction of an excise tax on sugary drinks (with the allocation of funds to finance measures to combat diabetes),” the RIA Novosti document quotes.
Due to the new excise tax, it is planned to attract 25 billion rubles next year, Interfax clarifies.
The introduction of an excise tax on sugary drinks has been discussed in Russia for several years. Producers opposed this idea, warning about the growth of consumer prices, in which this excise tax will be fully transferred.
