Sibur has launched the production of PET pellets from recycled materials in the Amur Region for 144 thousand tons per year – ExpertRU

Sibur Holding launched the production of PET granules using recycled materials in Blagoveshchensk.

The production volume of the Polief plant after reaching the design capacity will be up to 144 thousand tons per year, TASS writes with reference to the company’s press service. “The amount of polymer recycled will be up to 34 thousand tons, which is comparable to 1.7 billion used plastic bottles,” the press release says. It is noted that the total capacity of the enterprise for the production of PET will be 252 thousand tons per year.
PET granules containing up to 30% recycled polymer will be used in the production of new packaging products, including food packaging, and the total cost of the project amounted to more than 4 billion rubles.

“Today, we have not just launched the production of PET granules containing recycled materials, but, in fact, have closed the life cycle of the material from a plastic bottle in a trash can into a new bottle,” said Alexander Petrov, member of the Sibur board.

The new product is called Vivilen rPET. The granule contains up to 25–30% recycled polymer. From 2024, the raw materials for its production – PET flex – in the amount of 10 thousand tons will be supplied by the Russian environmental operator, with which Sibur signed a corresponding agreement in June. Under this scheme, up to 600 million plastic bottles will be sent for recycling annually.
