The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) is considering the possibility of allowing Belarusian and Russian athletes to participate in competitions. This was announced on Thursday, September 22 by FIS Secretary General Michel Vion during the Forum Nordicum conference.
It could take weeks or even months to make a decision, he said. “This is not about holding competitions in Russia, but about the participation of athletes in FIS events and World Cups. FIS will not make this decision without the exact recommendation of the IOC,” – quotes website of the Viona word event.
As the Secretary General explained, the decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian skiers can be made in December. “Perhaps they will be admitted to the World Championships in Planica. It could be a good opportunity,” he added. Vion stressed that Russians and Belarusians can compete only under a neutral flag.
FIS at the end of February 2022 suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions under its auspices due to a special operation in Ukraine.
