Reuters claims that Russia has released 10 foreign mercenaries captured in Ukraine. This happened thanks to the mediation of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. The publication refers to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia.

The released prisoners are citizens of the United States, Britain, Croatia, Morocco and Sweden, the ministry said in a statement. The plane with them has already landed in Saudi Arabia, clarifies Reuters on Wednesday 21 September.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss welcomed the release of British citizens with a comment on the social network. British MP Robert Jenrick claims that one of those released is Briton Aiden Eslin. He was captured by the DPR forces in early 2022, and then sentenced to death by the court of this republic.

The name of Aiden Eslin was indeed mentioned by the DPR authorities in June 2022. It was noted that he and other mercenaries sentenced to death were going to appeal to the authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic with petition for pardon.

The Russian side has not yet given official confirmation of the release of the mercenaries.
