Full-scale production of the updated Lada Vesta will be launched in the spring of 2023, and the first test bodies will be produced in November 2022.
AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov announced the details of the transfer of production of Lada Vesta from Izhevsk to Togliatti. According to him, a full-fledged production will begin in March 2023 – the plant will be able to produce up to 14 thousand new cars monthly, writes magazine “Behind the wheel”.
The top manager also noted that the plant has to work in a constantly changing situation, when some suppliers violate their supply obligations, even if the components are not included in the sanctions lists. In this regard, the plant will have to do serious work on the further localization of Vesta NG, and the annual scope of work, according to Sokolov, has to be completed in six months.
At the moment, the level of localization of Lada Vesta is about 85%. The most important point is that the cars produced in Tolyatti will fully comply with the updated Vesta NG (New Generation) model presented in February 2022, with the exception of the electronic stabilization system (ESP) and automatic transmission. The latter may appear on Vesta in the medium term: Sokolov said that the plant is already negotiating with several potential suppliers from friendly countries.
It will take at least a year and a half to organize the production of licensed transmissions in Russia or on the territory of the EAEU. AvtoVAZ is preparing the production of “automatic machines” together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Latest 240 Vesta NG bodies were assembled in Izhevsk in July 2022after which AvtoVAZ announced the transfer of the conveyor to Togliatti instead of the assembly line, which was previously intended for the assembly of Renault cars (the concern transferred its stake in AvtoVAZ to NAMI in May 2022 in connection with the decision to leave the Russian market).
