Lavrov discussed with the UN Secretary General the implementation of the “product deal”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday, September 22, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, met with Secretary General of the international organization António Guterres. The politicians discussed the implementation of the “product deal”, the parties to which are Russia and the UN.

How reported On the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties confirmed the need to fully implement the agreements reached in Istanbul on the export of Ukrainian food from the Black Sea ports, as well as on the unhindered export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers. Lavrov and Guterres stressed that it is necessary to ensure the package nature of the implementation of the agreement.

During the conversation, the parties also considered a number of issues on Russia’s interaction with the UN, specific initiatives to improve the efficiency of the work of the international organization. Mutual commitment was reaffirmed to preserve the central coordinating role of the UN, whose activities should be strictly based on its statutory goals and principles, including the sovereign equality of all member states.

Earlier, António Guterres emphasized the need to ensure free export of fertilizers from Russia through Europe, and also noted that, within the framework of the World Food Program, the UN can deliver to poor countries 300 thousand tons of Russian fertilizers accumulated in European seaports.
