BISHKEK. KAZINFORM – Today, Kyrgyzstan celebrates the Day of the State Language, which is 33 years old from the day it received this status, Kazinform’s own correspondent reports.
The Day of the State Language is celebrated in the country annually on September 23 after the adoption on this day in 1989 by the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR of the Law “On the State Language of the Kyrgyz SSR”. In Kyrgyzstan, along with the state language, Russian is widely used as an official language.
According to this document, the country ensures the free development of languages of other nationalities living in the republic, the functioning of the state language on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic does not prevent the use of other languages.
The Kyrgyz language belongs to Kyrgyz-Kypchak group Turkic languagesoy family, which is currently spoken by over 5 million people in the country, as well as ethnic Kyrgyz living in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, Russia, Afghanistan and some other countries.
