Autumn weather becomes a real test for the skin of the hands, which, under the influence of low temperatures and cold wind, becomes covered with microcracks and becomes inflamed. Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Yulia Galliamova told in an interview with Sputnik radio, how to properly care for the skin of the hands with the onset of cold weather.

The expert warned that dry and cracked skin of the hands due to cold weather is the entrance gate on the human body for all infections, so you need to take care of moisturizing.

In the cold season, it is recommended to use hand products with a denser texture than in the heat. Galliamova advised to opt for a cream that contains lanolin or petroleum jelly. Such a tool will help create a dense occlusal coating on the skin – a layer of moisture through which air cannot penetrate. This is especially important before going outside. It is also desirable that the cream contains hyaluronic acid.

At home, the cream should be used immediately after washing hands, it is best to put a tube of cream next to the sink, the dermatologist said.

With insufficient care and the formation of cracks in the skin, an inflammatory process and eczema can develop. This phenomenon cannot be ignored – it is necessary to consult a specialist and start treatment, Galliamova emphasized.

In the autumn period, you should especially carefully look after open areas of the skin – the face and hands. Dermatologist-cosmetologist told what determines the quality of the skin in the cold and how to improve her condition.
