EC to propose additional restrictions on technology exports to Russia

EU may abandon long-term gas contracts

The European Commission (EC) plans to propose additional restrictions on the export of European technology to Russia due to the escalation of the situation. This was announced on Thursday, September 22, by the official representative of the EC, Eric Mamer.

According to him, the head of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a number of clarifications about the sanctions. So, the EU will consider restrictions against individuals and organizations. In addition, when deliveries to Russia from the EU, additional export controls will be introduced for civilian technologies, writes Prime.

At the same time, Mamer added that the volume of new restrictions against Russia has not yet been determined. “As for the work on sanctions, it never stopped, we constantly followed the development of events and prepared to respond to them accordingly, which is happening now,” he said. However, it is too early to say whether this will be a new package of sanctions or an addition to the previous one.

EU sanctions against Russia will remain in place until the country’s economy collapses, Ursula von der Leyen said earlier. Moreover, they are preparing new offers on restrictive measures for Moscow, she added.
