AMLO agreed with food companies to maintain prices to contain inflation – El Sol de México

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that he agreed with the businessmen of the agri-food sector to maintain the prices of the main products of the basic basket to control inflation, after their meeting this Wednesday.

The president affirmed that the idea of ​​this agreement is to reinforce measures against rising inflation, after he released a plan in May that has failed to contain price escalation.

“The important thing is that the unanimous agreement was reached to maintain prices without increases in basic products, food, we reached that agreement and others,” said the president this Friday, during his morning press conference, at the National Palace.

Without giving details of the commitment with the industrialists, he stressed that the crucial thing about this agreement “is that everyone agreed to help” and announced that the businessmen who agreed to the commitment will attend their press conference on October 3 to give details.

At the meeting on September 21, Alberto Sepulveda, vice president of Walmart; Antonio Suárez Gutiérrez, president of Grupo Marítimo Industrial (Grupomar) and Leovi Carranza Beltrán, director of Grupo Pinsa; Juan González, director of Maseca; Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of the Economy; Altagracia Gómez, president of the Board of Directors of the Minsa Group and, the head of the Tax Administration System, Raquel Buenrostro.

Previously, the president had assured that he had reached agreements with the president of Maseca to reduce the price of corn flour and keep the cost of tortillas stable.

“They are looking for a way to carry out a review so that it is fair, they are going to help, it is a matter of trust and it is done for the country, because this country deserves everything, they are in a very good plan, let’s wait for the day Monday 3; it is this and other measures, but we are going to stop inflation, because it affects us all, we lose purchasing power, ”he replied.

Finally, López Obrador pointed out that the latest increase in inflation is due to an increase in food prices.
