The President of Moldova called for the withdrawal of the Russian military from Transnistria

The president Moldova Maia Sandu called for the unconditional withdrawal from the unrecognized Transnistria of the Russian military, who have been guarding ammunition depots since the Soviet period. This is reported TASS.

Sandu called for the withdrawal of the Russian military from Transnistria

She made such a statement at the 77th session General Assembly United Nations (UN). According to Sandu, the illegal presence of military personnel from Russia violates the neutral status of Moldova and increases the threat to the country’s security. She also called for the elimination of ammunition from warehouses in Kolbasna, noting that they pose a threat to the environment and security of the region.

Formerly First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Federation Council for international affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov warned about the terrorist threat due to explosions in Transnistria. According to him, Soviet weapons, which are stored on the territory of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR), can become a bait for militants.

According to various estimates, there are from 19,000 to 22,000 tons of ammunition in the military depots in Kolbasna. More than half of them are expired, so they cannot be used or transported. The senator noted that a possible detonation is comparable to the explosion of a 10 kiloton nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.
