Countries EU impose additional sanctions, both personal and sectoral, as soon as possible against Russia, its leadership and organizers of referendums in the republics of Donbass, in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell, writes RIA News.
According to Borrell, they want to “bring to account” Russia for organizing referendums and “other violations of international law” in Ukraine.
“Additional restrictive measures against Russia will be presented as soon as possible in coordination with our partners,” the diplomat promised.
He also explained that so far the decision on new sanctions and on who exactly will fall under them has not been made.
Also, the EU assured that they intend to strengthen military support for Kyiv.
Earlier, the Public Chambers of the DPR and LPR appealed to the heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik calling for an urgent referendum on joining the Russian Federation. In addition, prominent public figures of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions made similar appeals. They explained that joining Russia would make it possible to secure the population of the regions and would provide an opportunity to “restore historical justice.” Referendums on the issue of joining Russia should be held from 23 to 27 September.
Washington has declared that it will never recognize the results of the referenda. Similar statements were made by the Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholzas well as the authorities of France and Poland.
