Limited fit for military service: what you need to know?

What categories of fitness for military service exist and how are they determined

Decision on the admission or non-admission of a conscript to military service accepts military medical commission, which includes a general practitioner, surgeon, neurologist, psychiatrist, ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist and dentist. Based on the results of a medical examination, citizens of the Russian Federation are issued a certificate of fitness for the following categories:

A – fit for military service;

B – fit for military service with minor restrictions;

B – limited fit for military service;

G – temporarily unfit for military service.

D – unfit for military service.

What does category B mean?

Conscripts with category B are actually exempted from military service for health reasons. They receive military tickets marked “fit for non-combatant service” and are credited to the reserve. But they continue to be liable for military service and can be called up for training or military service with the second stage.

“There is a law, even a decree has nothing to do with it. If it is limited to a combatant, non-combatant … there is a gradation. But these people will not be sent to any war zones and will not be called up, because there are health restrictions,” Tochenov said.

Who is assigned the category B

Restricted fit for military service are recognized conscripts with infectious, parasitic, oncological and affecting the lungs, hearing and digestion diseases, blood diseases, abnormalities in the endocrine system, congenital anomalies and disorders of the psyche and nervous system.

In particular, category B can be assigned to hearing-impaired citizens of the Russian Federation, people with mild to moderate bronchial asthma, flat feet of III degree, scoliosis with a spinal curvature angle of more than 17 degrees, myopia of more than six diopters, hyperopia of more than eight diopters, hypertension with pressure from “140 to 90″ and above, tuberculosis. In addition, recruits with a height of 150 centimeters or less and a weight below 45 kilograms are recognized as limited fit.

Is it possible to change the category

Russians between the ages of 18 and 37 who are exempted from conscription for military service in connection with the recognition of their limited fit, may pass the medical re-examination. According to its results, they can change the category in the military ID, but only if there are health improvements.

To undergo a re-examination, citizens of the Russian Federation must submit a written application to the military commissariat, attaching relevant certificates and medical reports to it.

Who will not be affected by partial mobilization in 2022

According to law “On mobilization training and mobilization in the Russian Federation”, mobilization is not subject to those who have not served in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, do not have a military specialty and combat experience, dismissed from service due to age, health status or serving sentences in places of deprivation of liberty, employees of defense organizations -industrial complex and holders of an unexpunged or outstanding conviction for a serious crime.

At the same time, Russians who have four children or are expecting a fourth child, who are temporarily unfit for military service for health reasons, or who have a disabled relative will also be able to count on a delay in partial mobilization.

September 20 State Duma and Council of the Federation toughened penalties for non-compliance with military orders and crimes against military service during the period of mobilization in wartime or in armed conflict. The relevant amendments were made in the law “On military duty and military service”. According to the document, for desertion and looting, Russians face up to 15 years in prison, for evading military service by feigning illness – up to 10 years, for voluntary surrender – from 3 to 10 years.
