Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia Sergei Lavrov and the president Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades has been cancelled. The reason was instructions from EU on the cancellation of bilateral contacts with the Russian Federation after the appeal of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. About it writes RIA Novosti with reference to the Cyprus Mail newspaper.
As noted in the Cypriot government, the bilateral meeting between Lavrov and Anastasiades was to be held within the framework of UN General Assembly on Thursday night. However, at the direction of the EU, it was canceled.
In addition, Cyprus intends to join the measures that will be taken against the Russian Federation as a reaction to the holding of referendums in Ukraine.
Earlier, Lavrov, within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, held a meeting with the Director General IAEA Rafael Grossi. The parties exchanged views on the security of nuclear facilities on the territory of Ukraine, including the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP.
